These were some of the headlines with which the national press received the triumph of Claudia Van Sint Jan. On the night of 13 May, a beautiful student of ranching of 19 years, with 1,78m of height and green eyes won the crown of Miss Chile 1985. For the first time ever in the Miss Chile competition, they also wore different national costumes from all the regions of the country. The competition that year had gathered a very good level of contestants, not only by their beauty, but also by the high level of training that had been offered them by "Paula" magazine, the organizers of the pageant. Days before the election, the 12 semifinalists had been officially presented to the press at a cocktail do in Santiago's Sheraton Hotel. It was in that cold morning of May that the photographers chose their favorite: Claudia Van Sint Jan, the representative from San Fernando, was selected by the press as Miss Photogenic. Days later, she would also win the Miss Chile title. Although the election of Claudia left everybody happy, another candidate got also many admirers: Daniela Venturi, a lovely brunette from Santiago, who finally occupied the second place. Third was Ximena Ruiz, representative of Santa Cruz and the title of "Miss Paula" was won by one of the prettiest faces of the competition, Paulina Arellano.
